This morning, Milwaukee Public Schools and the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts honored teacher Katherine Katter at a surprise event in her classroom at the Milwaukee High School of the Arts.
Katter, an English teacher of MHSA, received the honor because of her long-standing support of the 30th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, which will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19 at the Marcus Center, as well as her incorporation of the celebration into her teaching curriculum.
In the case of Katter, the MHSA teacher has guided and encouraged her students to participate in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. writing contest for several years, with many of her students presented on stage during the celebration as first, second or third place winners.
Her honor includes a plaque, roses, balloons, an iPad Mini and two tickets to “The Phantom of the Opera” at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.
