Celebration of Teachers and Teaching on Oct. 17

The Education Deans of Greater Milwaukee (EDGM), a collective of deans from nine area higher education institutions, has partnered with MKEfoodies, a local food events organization, to create a celebration honoring the work of teachers in the Milwaukee area.

The Celebration of Teachers and Teaching takes place on Thursday, Oct. 17 at the Great Lakes Distillery, 616 W. Virginia St., at 7 p.m. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend, and proceeds from the event will help to establish an EDGM fund to promote teacher professional development and advancement of the reputation of the teaching field.

Attendees will be able to sample small plates from some beloved area restaurants, including Afro Fusion Cuisine, c.1880, Calatrava Café, Indulgence Chocolatiers, La Merenda, Milwaukee Localiscious, Odd Duck, Pastiche and Rumpus Room. A cash bar will be provided by Great Lakes Distillery.

At 8 p.m. there will be a brief awards presentation honoring 10 Milwaukee area teachers for their dedication and service to urban education. Guests of the event will also be invited to sign a large banner, expressing their thanks to Milwaukee area teachers.
